Special Topics – Excel for Operators
This is a basic class on Excel for water and wastewater system operators. The class will provide a hands-on overview of the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet application. Participants will explore workbook and worksheet basics, including creating, editing, formatting, formulas, working with multiple worksheets, using functions, visual elements, file management and integration of Excel and Word. Participants will be able to design a basic spreadsheet for system data collection and analysis.  This class is sponsored by Casper College and funded by Region VIII  EPA Office of Drinking water and is being offered as a pre-conference workshop at WWQ/PCA annual conference.  The class instructor is Jan Burnett a long time instructor on this software at Casper College. Class size is limited so please sign up soon.

Special Topics - Wastewater Lab Quality Assurance and Quality Control
This class will cover the testing and Quality Assurance /Quality Control basics for a  wastewater treatment plant lab and  will be a good class if you report your lab results as part of an NPDES program. Class will cover the following tests: Biochemical oxygen demand, pH, total suspended solids, total colifom and E-coli and ammonia. Class will be taught by Energy Labs Staff and is being offered as a pre-conference workshop at WWQ/PCA annual conference.

WATER QUALITY TECHNOLOGY CONTINUING EDUCATION

Package Plant Operation and Maintenance
This two day hands-on class has been developed to provide you with the basic knowledge to operate and maintain a package activated sludge wastewater treatment system.  The class will cover wastewater composition, plant nomenclature, basic process control utilizing sludge quality concepts based on the use of sludge settling curves and settleometers.  We will also cover use of COD meters, dissolved oxygen meters, pH meters, oxidation reduction proves as well as core sampler.  We will discuss in detail return and waste flow control and microbiology.  We will review NPDES permits as well.  This class will be a combination of classroom lecture and field trips to local package plants.  This class will be taught by Bill Mixer and Rich Weigand of West Virginia Environmental Training Center.

Resource Conservation and Recovery Act Basic Training
Designed to introduce the participant to the basic regulatory concepts of the Hazardous Waster Manager.  Topics to be covered are waster determination, waster storage, record-keeping, disposal practices, and waster reduction techniques.  An introductory program focused for anyone who deals with hazardous waster or materials.

This class will focus on conventional water treatment. Topics covered include filtration technology, jar testing, and the math used to calculate dosage and chemical application, and a visit to several local treatment systems. ASSE Cross Connection Tester Certification
This class is designed to prepare participants for the American Society of Sanitary Engineers (ASSE) backflow tester’s certification test. Topics covered include an overview of cross connection programs, hydraulic principles, test gauges, parts and terminology, applications and installations, ASSE test procedures for all devices, troubleshooting, and test failures and causes. The instructor is ASSE certified and the certification exam will be offered on the last day of class (there are 14 exam openings). The ASSE tester application will be sent to you after you register. Participants must document five years of experience in the plumbing or drinking water industry on the ASSE application to be eligible for the ASSE tester exam. Fees include the textbooks, ASSE exam proctor, and ASSE exam ($100 value). This class is funded by a grant from Region VIII EPA Office of Drinking Water and is subject to a minimum enrollment.

ASSE Cross Connection Re-Certification   
Completing this re-certification class will renew your ASSE Tester License for three years. ASSE has instituted new requirements for recertification as of January 2004. You must re-certify within six months of your tester license expiration date. Your tester license will not be valid after its expiration date and you have six-months to recertify. After six-month you will need to recertify. This class consists of at least three hours of lecture and review. Participants are required to take and pass a 25 questions exam and perform a proctored hands-on exam on a double check (ASSE 1015) and reduced pressure assembly (ASSE1013). The class includes the $50 ASSE recertification fee.
