OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ACT (OSHA)
The training activities of the following hazardous materials class are potentially stressful. These activities require the participant to wear a fully encapsulated suit, a self-contained breathing apparatus, and a full-face mask. The weight of the full gear may be up to 45 pounds. Participants must be able to perform hands-on activities with special emphasis on conditions involving pulmonary, cardiovascular, and musculoskeletal systems.

  • 40-Hour OSHA Hazardous Waste Site Worker
All hazardous waste site workers must have a minimum of 40 hours of training (OSHA 1910.120). This class is for personnel who work at hazardous waste cleanup sites. Topics covered include worker protection procedures, health effects of hazardous materials, personal protective equipment, air monitoring, waste site control, containment and emergencies, and equipment decontamination procedures. Both classroom and hands-on laboratory exercises are used to teach this class. As a part of the class, participants will be fitted for an air purifying respirator (ARP), receive practical self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) experience, and work in OSHA levels A, B, and C protective equipment. Participants will set up a Site Safety Plan for a mock hazardous waste site. If you have your own APR or SCBA, please bring them to class.
