GED Success Stories

Students may not be successful on their first try at passing the GED test. Sometimes, life gets in the way. Teachers are only given the chance to sow the seeds. But always, always, it is our hope that after the seed has been planted it will eventually grow to be fruitful and productive. So it is with our GED students.

Here are a few recent stories of students who passed the GED through Casper College.

  • Our high scoring GED student for 2007 is a man who was born in Wyoming.  He dropped out of high school at age 16. Shortly thereafter, he was married and subsequently became the father of three children.  Because of his familial responsibilities, he didn’t have another opportunity to think about education for quite some time.  This graduate battled drug and alcohol addictions, and was incarcerated.  He then resided at a residential treatment facility in Casper, and decided to attempt the GED.  His pre-test scores indicated he needed very little study time. He completed the GED with outstanding scores. He is now attending Casper College, and we expect he will be a very successful student.
  • An extremely shy young woman entered the GED program in the early spring.  Her past experiences with her peers in the public school setting contributed to her obvious lack of self-confidence...she hated school more than anything else.  This, along with other personal problems, prevented her from completing high school.  This young woman was just sure she would not pass the GED. As she worked to improve her math skills at the ABE/GED Center, her confidence level increased.  Not only did she pass the GED test, but she had exceptionally high scores. After passing, she was given the opportunity to enroll in the Human Potential Seminar class offered free to all GED graduates. Though hesitant to enroll at first, she stopped in at the ABE/GED Center after her first day of class. She absolutely loved it, and told us she couldn't wait to attend the next class! She has truly blossomed as the result of earning her GED.
