Agriculture

Welcome to the Casper College Agricultural Department, home to students pursuing a career in an agricultural discipline.  Courses and programs in this field are offered in the classroom and online.

What are the features of Casper’s program?

Agriculture degrees are offered for both transfer and non-transfer students in the areas of: animal science, agribusiness, range management and general agriculture. Classes include a wide variety of animal science and animal production courses, meat science, soils, range ecology, crops and agro-ecology, agricultural economics and agribusiness courses. Generally, 75 percent of our traditional students transfer to universities to pursue a bachelor’s degree. We also offer a variety of technical courses such as Packing and Outfitting (AGTK 1590) and Horseshoeing (AGTK 1570) to meet the demands of members of our community.

Student organizations

In the Casper College Agricultural Department, we believe that the most successful students are not only those that excel in the classroom, but are also engaged in activities that are offered across campus.  The Oil City Ag Club is the largest club on campus. Many of its activities include: the Adopt a Highway Program, annually hosting a lamb and pig sale in the spring, and social activities such as a Thanksgiving dinner and card tournaments.

The Livestock Judging Club annually hosts spring and fall livestock judging contests which are attended by 4-H and FFA members from the Wyoming, Colorado, and Montana. The Livestock Judging Club also provides annual livestock training, coupled with a ski trip. Livestock Judging Club members serve as leaders at the annual livestock judging camp. Learn more about the Livestock Judging Team.

The Casper College Rodeo Club is historic club, rich in tradition and success that dates back to the beginning of the Agricultural Department. Members volunteer each year to help put on local events such as jackpot ropings, and most importantly, the Casper College Ropin’ and Riggin’ Days Rodeo.

Agricultural students at Casper College are active in student government and other campus clubs such as intramural sports, Forensics/Debate and College Republicans. There is a very strong relationship with the Wyoming FFA Association and many State FFA Officers have attended Casper College during their term.

Partnerships

The Casper College Agricultural Department has many relationships with members of the community, other departments on campus, high schools and youth programs across the region.

The advisory board to the Agricultural Department meets annually to discuss all aspects of the agricultural department and provides recommendations. The advisory committee is comprised of businesspeople, teachers and alumni of the program. In addition to meeting annually, the department often seeks their input on a wide range of issues.

The Casper College Agricultural Department has established a strong relationship with many youth oriented and producer organizations across Wyoming. The department hosts 4-H and FFA activities that include livestock sales, contests, shows and Ag Expo.

The Agricultural Department has the unique opportunity to partner with local high schools and their FFA programs across Wyoming. Articulation agreements are essential to our students and many are in place in institutions of higher education today.

Employment info

Often, the most influential learning comes in the form of on-the-job training.  Casper College’s Agricultural Department has a cooperative effort with several employers in our community as students and graduates develop experimental skill sets.

Annually, students interested in feeding livestock and business and marketing skills are offered employment at a local feed store.  Students are active in the formulation, mixing and merchandising of rations and feeds to local agricultural producers and small animal owners. Student workers have direct interaction with customers and develop ideal business practices through this experience.
