Q. I haven't been in school for ____ years; Will I fit in?
A. Many Casper College students are over 24 years old. Students are from many backgrounds. If you want to attend college, we focus our efforts to help you succeed.
Q. I don't know what I want to be when I grow up.
A. Staff members from the Counseling Service and Student Development Services have advanced degrees in counseling and expertise in assisting students with academic planning and career planning.
Q. I work full time and I am raising a family, when do I go to College?
A. Classes are not just offered during the day, there are classes offered at various times throughout the day and evening. There are distance education classes offered through the Internet (on the computer) and over the television or VCR.
Q. How can I afford to go to college?
A. It only costs $59.00 per credit hour if you are a Wyoming resident. If you are working on an associate degree, you may qualify to receive grants, scholarships and loans. Check with the Student Financial Assistance Office at 268-2503 for more details.
Q. I haven't taken a Math or English class for____ years; how do I know where to start?
A. We will give you a course placement test (COMPASS), so that you start at the right level for you.
Q. How do I know what classes to take? Do I have to finish a degree in 2 years?
A. You will have the chance to talk with a College staff member who can advise you about your class choices. Many of our students take longer than 2 years to finish a degree because they have busy lives.
Q. I have been out of school ___ years; I don't know if I can remember how to study.
A. College Studies 1000 provides students with academic and personal strategies for a successful transition to the college. Casper College also has a number of offices to help you learn your material. The College Studies course identifies specific services for you.
Q. Is there childcare on campus?
A. The Inga Thorson Early Childhood Learning Center can accommodate 56 children, infant through kindergarten. Apply early if this is a need, they fill up fast.
Q. Are there support groups for older students?
A. Currently, there is a "Support for the Older Student" group and a "Single Parent Therapy" group. Check with the Counseling and Student Development Service at 268-2366.
Q. I'm a senior citizen, am I too old to attend college?
A. You are never too old to learn! The Golden Age Scholarship program permits residents of Natrona County who are 60 years of age to enroll tuition-free for most Casper College classes.
